THE PROJECT:
For this project, I wanted to make a design that I could put on a T-shirt using only four colors, or 5 if you used the color of the shirt, which is always fun to do. The struggle was what sort of design did I want to do, something just really cool looking? Something clever? Eventually, I decided that I wanted to try and do something clever.
SKETCHING PROCESS:
After looking at a lot of design from various sites on the internet I tried to come up with some ideas of what I wanted to do.
I played with other ideas from different video game and so on but nothing really caught my fancy. After talking to some people I wanted to do something clever from the T.V. show Stargate SG-1. So I went into Illustrator and started up a draft.
DRAFT:
My original design was to play with the dial home device or the Stargate design itself to say something like phone home. So here are my two original designs for the draft
And then the draft I started to go with.
But after a while I just wasn’t really feeling it. So I decided to scrap, the Idea and go with something different, I wanted to use the Triforce and the Three Main Gods from Greek mythology. So I came up with this.
After talking to a lot of people they didn’t really get it, somebody suggested that I go more in-depth with the Zelda and Greek theme and try to do something with pixels or 8-bit art as well just to give it that video game feel. So I came up with this rough draft.
So rough but I enjoyed it, doing 8-bit pixel art is not as hard as I thought it was going to be but it is super time consuming. Going in with the eye dropper tool and color each individual square took some time.
THE FINAL:
After getting feedback about the sizing of the letters, and the spacing in between the letters as well, and realizing that the project was for only four colors, five with the shirt color. I went forward with the design and went with this.

Over all this was a really fun project to do, a lot of work with the pixel art. But it was a good thing to learn how to do. After three different versions I think I was finally able to get the idea of the project done. The cleverness of the design will only make sense to a super niche market. But I think that once you understand what is going on it is a really cool design.
