The project:
For this project I wanted to make a photo realistic watch. So I decided to try and recreate the Nixon 51-30 watch, but just the body and face of the watch.

So I started with drawing out different designs and hands and gears, just to see what I wanted to do and how they fit together.

I tried to draw out bands, gears, crowns, faces minute and hour hands etc… Just a lot of things to try and get a feel for what I wanted to do. Ultimately it came down to three different watches that I wanted to do, but I decided on the Nixon 51-30. It is a watch that I have always wanted.

It started out pretty well, I was able to get the body and everything done pretty fast, but the crowns took me a while, and I hated them. I couldn’t figure how to make the numbers on the outside look indented. And I could not for the life of me create a band that I like. And there was so much more to make it look more realistic. Some of the feedback I got was to make the numbers on the body to get indented. And to change where the gradient was on the body of the watch also to get shadows to the hands.

Overall I really enjoyed doing this project, I felt less stressed about this project then the 12 Icons. I believe that it was just because I was working on this one thing, not twelve. Playing with the gradients was also really good to learn. I feel like was able to make it look realistic, using the shadows and highlights, and also using gradients correctly. I felt like I also gave the 51-30 credit with this project.
