The Project:

For this Project I wanted to create some Icons. Once of my passions in life is video games, and of those video games Halo is the game that got me started. So I went to the drawing board with an idea to make some icons from the game.

Sketching and Draft:

I started with different ideas from the game like the ghost or banshee, and even the energy sword. But I still didn’t like it, I moved on to different achievements that one can earn through playing the game. Quickly though I realized that I like the idea of making helmets from the games, so I started to sketch more of those out. I looked at a lot of examples of the game Halo 5 for different helmets, and then started to sketch a few the best I can.

After I got the sketches I liked out, I took them into Illustrator and started to created drafts. I started with six to see if I liked them, and would move on from there.

I really enjoyed them, just a few things to fix that I got from feedback just some anchor points that where not really lining up, and some shapes and strokes needed to be changed. And over a little change in color to make them more unified. And came up with these 11,

But still I thought that there were lacking, and I was missing one. So I asked a few people what I could do to make them pop a little more, the main suggestion was to play with shadows and shading. But I didn’t want to do just the regular shading. So I decided to play with halftones, and made the final piece.

I feel like I did what I set out to do, yes I changed from my original idea of doing icons from the Halo game. But I captured instead, the helmets from the game, and displayed them in a unique light. And I was able to capture my passion of the game.
